Feed Mill Manager

Job Description

 

Below are the main activities for this position. However, they are not limited, it is your responsibility to help other teams as is needed.

 

The Feed Mill Manager oversees producing the correct commodities and the right amounts of the commodities for Beef Northwest’s feeding needs and outside sales.  This means ensuring that all maintenance on the mill equipment is completed and documented.  This also includes training and developing staff’s knowledge so the mill can operate both safely and efficiently. Ensure all commodities handled in the mill meet quality and safety specifications.  The Mill Manager will ensure that all possible problems are identified and addressed in a timely fashion. The Mill Manager works closely with the Assistant Manager and Feeding Supervisor.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all commodities are hauled to the mill for the next day’s feeding 

  • Ensure routine and preventative maintenance is scheduled and performed

  • Ensure critical parts are identified and on hand

  • Operate processing equipment following set procedures to achieve quality control specifications for different commodities

  • Ensure daily housekeeping duties are completed

  • Maintain a schedule for all mill employees

  • Supervise mill employees and set tasks & priorities for the day with follow-up

  • Assist in Budget Development

  • Ensure department is operating efficiently and within Budget

  • Ensure employees are working safely following all safety protocols

  • Handle all commodities following proper sanitary guidelines to maintain product integrity and quality

  • Measuring commodities to ensure accurate inventory levels daily, weekly and monthly

  • Communicate with Yard Manager and other Supervisors on production challenges or quality issues 

  • Consistent and accurate daily commodity samples 

  • Ensure inventory is on hand and accounted for properly

  • Assist in high moisture corn pit fill up each fall

Salary

Annual Starting Salary: $ 55,000.00

Benefits

Housing: A sign on bonus will be provided to help with relocation cost and initial payments to find housing in the area. No formal housing is provided. Employee will be responsible for utilities.

 

Transportation: A work vehicle will be provided for yard managers for transportation to and from the yard and for work purposes.

Other: A company phone and laptop will be provided.

401K Savings Plan: We are committed to our employees’ financial security after their career with us. Employees are eligible to participate in a 401(k)-retirement plan after three months of service. This includes an option for a Traditional 401(k) or Roth 401(k) contribution. The company match is discretionary however we have consistently matched employees’ savings of up to 5% of gross pay.

Goal Setting: Every employee participates in an annual performance evaluation and goal setting process for the upcoming year to earn a bonus up to 15% of their base wage. Through the goal setting process employees are encouraged and rewarded to further their knowledge which is a direct benefit to the individual and our operation

Paid Time Off: We recognizes that regular Full-Time employees need time away from work, that is why we as a company offer a generous annual allotment of PTO to be used for vacation and personal time.

Holiday Pay: Beef Northwest provides six paid holidays per year New Years, Christmas, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day, and Thanksgiving. Cattle must be fed every day, even on Christmas. We appreciate the sacrifice our employees occasionally make. Employees that work holidays are paid time and on half for the time they work, as well as the standard 10 hours of holiday pay.

Qualifications

  • Strong oral communication skills

  • Leadership skills to work through crew to achieve desired results

  • High level of organization and prioritization skill

  • Strong systematic problem-solving skills

  • Excellent safety skills and awareness needed

  • Must be a team player

  • Maintenance knowledge to help crew problem solve and assist if needed

  • Equipment operating experience helpful (i.e. Skid Steer, Loader, Commodity Truck etc.)

  • Basic electrical, pneumatic, mechanical knowledge

  • Be able to read gauges, and take measurements

  • Basic reading, writing and math skills

  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills

  • Basic excel skills a plus

Physical Requirements

  • Mostly moderate work exerting in excess of 50 pounds of force occasionally

  • Requires climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, and hearing

  • Person subject to both inside & outside weather conditions including extreme cold, heat, noise, vibration, atmospheric conditions, hazards, oil, dust, and may have to wear a respirator in certain instances
